Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) may be more prevalent than previously thought, according to experts. Yet widespread awareness of SIBO, which is marked by excessive bacteria in the small intestine, let alone a standardized clinical approach to the condition, remains low.

SIBO typically manifests with symptoms that overlap many of those attributed to irritable bowel syndrome, such as gas, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea and
